[edit]Honestly, the examples for small and big text are actually pretty good. TjazForint (talk) 09:01, 20 April 2025 (UTC)
link to wikisource editor
[edit]The article has a link [[Help:Editing]] and {{VE documentation}} has a link [[Help:Introduction to editing with Wiki Markup/1|source editor]]; neither of thes has documentation for the wikisource editor. There should be a link to wikisource help or documentation, e.g., explanations of the various wikisource icons. -- Shmuel (Seymour J.) Metz Username:Chatul (talk) 15:53, 30 July 2025 (UTC)

If I understand correctly, at line 1804 (the table with cells about Leading spaces), "&" being instead of "→" is an error. I’m sorry if I’m not right. Fonibak (talk) 04:58, 25 September 2025 (UTC)
Question: what error are you referring to? Can you please be more precise? M.Bitton (talk) 12:41, 25 September 2025 (UTC)
- Fixed with this edit. Thanks for the sharp eye! – Jonesey95 (talk) 13:23, 25 September 2025 (UTC)
Nowiki tags for square brackets in references
[edit]Initial discussion at Teahouse
|
|---|
|
I recently made an edit to Erebus which fixed the CheckWiki error for "Square brackets without correct beginning." This was the original text that was inside a reference: ... [= Orphic fr. 64V Bernabé (pp. 73–5) = [https://archive.org/details/orphicorumfragme00orphuoft/page/80/mode/2up?view=theater fr. 1 Kern]] ... and the edit I made: ... [= Orphic fr. 64V Bernabé (pp. 73–5) = [https://archive.org/details/orphicorumfragme00orphuoft/page/80/mode/2up?view=theater fr. 1 Kern]<nowiki>]</nowiki> ... Both edits read like: ... [= Orphic fr. 64V Bernabé (pp. 73–5) = fr. 1 Kern] ... I made this edit to fix this error while keeping the content and the appearance of the reference in mind. The text/appearance of both edits remain the same. Per WP:COSMETICBOT, this could be considered a cosmetic edit, however I also fixed reference duplication in my edit, so I think this is considered a substantive edit. However, an editor has reverted my first edit and argues that there is actually no error and CheckWiki is incorrectly flagging this as an error. In my Teahouse post, I asked two questions:
|
A few editors have been discussing the use of nowiki tags for square brackets in references and whether this is an error that should be fixed and the potential methods to fix them.
For example, if a reference reads like ... [abcdef ... [ghijkl]] ... , should there be nowiki tags added so the Wikitext doesn't think "ghijkl" is supposed to be a Wikilink?
Here I will add two more questions:
- Is there a possible guideline that this can be covered under at this moment?
- If not, should a guideline be added that discusses this?
Tagging editors involved in Teahouse discussion: @Mathglot, @Michael Aurel Ecourter (talk) 19:02, 28 December 2025 (UTC)
- Hi, Ecourter, and thanks for moving the Teahouse discussion here. Posting solely the initial question above without the follow-up responses may invite duplication of effort and fragmentation of the discussion. May I suggest you either just link to it, along with a brief intro in your own words of a sentence or two describing what the basic issue is, or else include all of it in a collapsed state? The former (link + brief intro) is better imho, and if you want, I can do that for you, or you can. Thanks, Mathglot (talk) 09:04, 29 December 2025 (UTC)
- If you'd like to do it, you can. Otherwise I can do it later today. Thanks! Ecourter (talk) 10:10, 29 December 2025 (UTC)
- Done. Ecourter (talk) 20:49, 29 December 2025 (UTC)
